''In circular motion one moves through these transitional spaces and landscapes, re-establishing the concept of home. Self becomes furnished with objects belonging to others. You are waiting and conditioned to leave. We give you these shoes to walk with back to a space of non-being.''
Tuao - Conditioned to leave researched the materialities of momentariness that hid in the basements of refugee centers in Helsinki, Finland. The exhibition was composed of various materials, stories and objects that were left behind from the people who were deported (or left) Finland. The purpose of the work of art was to archive and document some of the material traces of the refugee crisis and critically comment the ways in which different events around the crisis was dealt with in Finland, and especially on a bureaucratic level.
The exhibition was curated to Auttamo HKI between 4.-10.2.2019. Auttamo HKI situates almost opposite to the building in which the National Board of Antiquities Finland situates. In this way the artists wanted to comment the notion of heritage and the importance of documentation in the times of humanitarian crisis.
