''...with a blank, a root, a shovel and rust'' performs the paradox of times and fictions landscape of Kuninkaansaari island in Helsinki. The project is a collaboration with curator Riikka Thitz and Variables -project.

The performance consisted of 4 different parts in 4 different locations at Kuninkaansaari island. One of the performances happened during Lapsody: Paramatter -live art and performance festival.

In the project my questions as an archaeologist on the island were how does the abstraction of time manifest itself on the surface as material change and how do these changes alter, or as I say, cut my perception of time on the island? My questions as a performance artist were how do these cuts appear as colour and how do these cuts change the way in which I hold time in my body?

The performance is an exploration of body, time, space, gaze, a choreographic object and Kuninkaansaari islands geological landscapes.

Documentation: Marko Marila, Tero Nauha and Wisa Knuuttila

The project was part of The University of the Arts Helsinki’s Saari 2020 (“Island 2020”) programme which It included cross-artistic, intimate performances, installations, workshops and discussions on Kuninkaansaari island in August-September 2020.
