What is Soukka like? Whose Soukka is it? Who is Soukka for? On whose terms is Soukka in the future?
Transforming Landscape (Muuntautuva Maisema) is an interactive installation in which I reach out to the landscapes of my childhood in Soukka, Espoo. In the project, I work have worked with the concept of memory and the textures of landscape and time. The work raises questions about forgetting, suburban life and the ever-changing landscape in Soukka. In the installation, I use colorful and soft felt fabrics and construction waste collected from the forest in the local area. There are also different scents in the installation. I have researched the archives of the Internet and Google's algorithms and raised some headlines related with Soukka's history, present and future. As I constructed the work, I ended up being inspired by minimalist aesthetics and its theatricality, as well as the forms which our beloved neighborhood seems to suggest The colors of the felt fabrics reminds me of the colors of childhood toys.
